Scientific Name   Cynomys ludovicianus

I aquired two pairs of Black Tailed Praire Dogs at the beginning of 2009. These were from a wildlife park and unfortunately have had very little human contact. Due to this they are extremely shy and retiring and any encroachment to their enclosure and they are straight into their hides / nest areas.

As they were to all intents and purposes living as a wild group they were not in the best of condition with missing fur, battle wounds when I got them. I placed each sexed pair in their own enclosure as I did not want the two males sparring / fighting to be top dog and there more stressed amd maybe scarred.
Within a few weeks both pairs were showing a marked iprovement in condition with hair growing back and general improvement in fur condition. After about three months all fur had grown back and they are looking in really good condition now.
