Our Babies

Below is a picture of Stinky and Pinkies home. They are both males. We house all our rats as same sex pairs or groups.

As a base we use wood based cat litter. This is a safe substrate to use. It is absorbent, non dusty and odour free. Rats are quite prone to chest problems due to dust issues with bedding. Toilet rolls and kitchen roll tubes are used for the rats to play with. A large plastic tube is included in the cage for the rats to play in and run through.

As you can see the cage is quite large. we believe in giving all our animals a large amount of space. This provides a large area for exercise.
We will be adding a wheel shortly to add more exercise.

Below is a picture of Ginger and Totos home. Again a large cage with plenty of room for play and exercise. The substrate is again wood based cat litter.

The rats sleep in a hammock, you can see one hanging in the picture just above.

Feeding.

We feed our rats a good quality pelleted rat food and ordinary rat food as their basic diet. We supplement this with bits of vegetables, fruit, cooked chicken, cooked rice and pasta, mealworms, they love a very small portion of cheese every now and again, they go mad for peanut butter this again fed as an occasional treat.

As you can see from the pictures, water is given via a water bottle. Fresh water is given daily.
